Australia
BAI Communications Australia is shaping the future of broadcast, shared infrastructure and wireless communications technology. We are creating an inspiring blueprint that will challenge traditional thinking, harness innovation, facilitate collaboration and ignite new opportunities to improve connectivity for communities and underpin Australia’s digital economy.
In Australia, BAI operates one of the most extensive broadcast networks in the world across 752 sites. We provide 1,985 fully managed television and radio transmission services, delivering 127 million broadcasting hours to 99% of the population.
Decades-long partnerships with national public broadcasters, ABC and SBS, have seen BAI manage the Australian transition from analogue to digital television. Throughout that transition, we collaborated with the broadcast industry to provide spectrum-planning advice to the Australian Communications and Media Authority. Today, we are applying our expertise to advance the broadcast and telecommunications networks of the future; for example, bringing the first 4K television broadcasting trials to Australia. We also work in partnership with commercial broadcasters Southern Cross Austereo and WIN.
In times of crisis, such as natural disasters, national broadcasters rely on BAI to maintain their connection with Australians, and emergency services trust us to keep them connected, informed and safe. In New South Wales (NSW), we operate and maintain the government’s Public Safety Network for the NSW Telco Authority, managing over 300 sites across NSW to facilitate communication among emergency services and transport, energy, and environment service providers.
Our telecommunications offering includes distributed antenna systems, small cells, and macro cells. We also design, build, and operate public, private wireless and smart precincts solutions. BAI itself owns over 400 towers across the country. Through our tower network, utilising our engineering, delivery, and operational capabilities, we provide neutral host and fibre co-location services for mobile network operators (MNOs), service providers, enterprises, and public sector customers.
This extensive footprint presents significant opportunities for our customers, amplifying their reach, enhancing their services, and accelerating their networks. These solutions are a priority growth area, and our carrier licence is key to delivering seamless end-to-end fully managed or neutral host services.
Whether it’s bringing together the right network of partnerships or working as part of a dedicated team to deliver shared outcomes, our people are relentless in helping our customers rethink commercial and delivery models – creating synergies across multiple use cases and technologies. To every challenge, we bring decades of expertise, and a willingness to do things differently. We’re here for the long term to grow and scale with our customers to advance connectivity across Australia

United Kingdom & Ireland
BAI’s leading neutral host model is helping to accelerate and optimise wireless infrastructure in the UK. Two major partnerships with Transport for London and Sunderland City Council are helping to fast track the UK’s digital transformation and build the smart communities of the future.
In 2021 BAI was awarded a 20-year contract by Transport for London to deliver high-speed mobile connectivity across the capital in the most advanced network of its type in the world. The partnership will establish a long-awaited backbone of connectivity across London with a city-wide integrated communications network delivering multi-carrier cellular, Wi-Fi, and fibre connectivity services.
Modern multi-carrier infrastructure will enable mobile operators to immediately provide continuous coverage to their customers across London Underground stations and tunnels. BAI will also help to create a safer, smarter London by building and operating critical communications infrastructure that will support police, fire, and ambulance services.
BAI has also signed a 20-year strategic partnership with Sunderland City Council to build a new 5G centric network, accelerating adoption of transformative digital services for sectors including manufacturing and logistics, education and social care. Sunderland was awarded UK Smart City of the Year 2020 and the next generation 5G mobile infrastructure puts it on track to become one of the UK’s most advanced smart cities.
BAI’s expertise in the UK and commitment to connect the unconnected in the most complex environments has been strengthened through its acquisition of Vilicom, a leader in high performance 4G and 5G mobile and cellular coverage solutions. Vilicom specialises in private, indoor and off-shore networks, with projects ranging from premiership football stadiums to Moray East offshore windfarm in Scotland, where Vilicom designed a bespoke private network covering an area of 295km².
These momentous projects and investment in its UK office, recently celebrated by the UK’s International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan, underlines BAI’s long-term commitment to the country and desire to expand its European presence in coming years.
