It’s an exciting time for BAI Communications as we explore new markets. The places in which we operate continues to expand, creating opportunities for our employees. Our mobility programme is designed to ensure our assignees are setup for success and thrive in assignments. Whether it is for a long or short-term assignment, self-initiated or permanent transfer, we have programmes in-place for everyone to take advantage of. They are designed for assignees who have the motivation to sustain our global growth and to build our high performing mobile workforce.

We support international careers whilst valuing mobility and professional development. Our assignments are a commitment to our employees’ professional development as the experience helps funnel new perspectives, ideas, business practices and networking opportunities that places our employees well into their future career trajectory with BAI. Additionally, our assignees enhance their management skills equipping them to work alongside and lead global and diverse teams.

In 2016, Dion, a Broadcast Australia employee, moved to BAI Communications in Toronto as a Project Specialist to support the roll-out of Wi-Fi and Cellular connectivity to the Toronto subway. “I was brought into this development programme to learn the business with a view of taking the experience into the next transit project that the BAI group wins,” said Dion. “Being in Toronto I’ve learned so much because of the wide range of work that they undertake. This allowed me to be immersed in all aspects of the transit business.”

Over the past two years, Dion has helped bring some exciting projects from vision to fruition. “Last year I was asked to develop a technical solution to provide continuous network connectivity to a subway train here in Toronto. I helped develop our ideal solution, built a working test bed to prove it, and then deployed our technology in a section of the TTC subway” explained Dion. “The most exciting part happened this year when we modified the design to work above ground and implemented our solution onto a commuter train and two buses. They are currently operating in a technical evaluation period with the transit provider.”

Project Manager Anton relocated from Australia for a 2-year assignment in New York with Transit Wireless (a majority owned BAI Communications company) as they outfitted the underground metro with cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity. “The international experience I gained in managing very high-profile projects with a diverse team in an extremely challenging environment will benefit future initiatives in Australia and abroad,” said Anton. Given the unique environment in ‘the city that never sleeps’ which has telecom ducts that have been around since the 1800s, he learned skills he never would have in Australia. “I experienced the value of managing a team with varying backgrounds, skills and experience where we used innovative ideas to solve complex problems during an extremely fast paced deployment,” said Anton. “I now have an appreciation for the wider group and can draw on my experience and network to assist BAI in achieving our goals.”

In addition to making strong friendships, Anton said that this programme ensures the professional learning and development of employees and is ideal for anyone with a large appetite for life experiences and who thrives on challenges both personally and professionally. “It was a character building experience that challenged us to become locals in another culture filled with unforgettable memories. I would highly recommend this programme to anyone. Be courageous and get your passport in order!”
