BAI Communications appoints Group Business Development Director from within its leadership ranks

10 May 2021

[Global]: Leading communications infrastructure provider BAI Communications (BAI) today announced that Malcolm Keys has been appointed as Group Business Development Director.

Reporting to Group Chief Commercial Officer Andrew McGrath, this position is responsible for driving BAI’s achievement of its customer acquisition, revenue and profitability goals. This includes developing new product offerings, such as 5G IoT solutions for industry, and assessing new market development and entry.

Discussing Keys’ appointment, Andrew McGrath said: “I’m excited that such an experienced and skilled leader in the telecommunications industry can be appointed from within BAI.  Malcolm is an outstanding addition to the Commercial team, who will define new areas of cooperation with industry partners.”

For the past five years, Malcolm has been leading BAI Communications’ business development in Europe. Prior to that, as CEO of BAI’s joint venture with Airwave Solutions, Malcolm was responsible for BAI’s market entry into the emergency services telecommunications market. Malcolm joined BAI in 2005 as BAI Director of Telecommunications and Information Technology and led the New Products Division, focused on innovative new services such as mobile TV, datacasting, and digital radio. Before joining BAI, Malcolm held various executive positions with leading ICT companies such as Crown Castle International and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Commenting on his appointment, Keys said: “This is the perfect time to strengthen our market engagement and business development capability, as BAI gears up to expand its reach in Europe and North America. We have a great opportunity to create a global showcase of our expertise and the innovation that already underpins BAI’s success delivering major infrastructure projects. As our customers share common technology and economic challenges, I am keen to develop our future product offerings to solve these problems and position BAI as the long-term partner of choice for both government and telecommunications enterprises.”

Malcolm, a committed supporter of gender equality and youth in engineering, recently spoke at the Women’s Engineering Society Virtual Annual Conference. Malcolm is also a champion of BAI’s partnership with Generating Genius, a London based charitable organisation aimed at supporting talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to realise their potential in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

“Having recently joined BAI, I’m excited that such an experienced and skilled leader in the telecommunications industry as well as a highly respected leader within BAI is joining my team as I establish BAI’s commercial function,” added McGrath, who joined BAI on 4 May 2021.
