Between 2015 – 2018, Musica Viva In Schools embarked on an ambitious digital innovation project with key partner BAI Communications to revolutionise the way in which students and teachers experience music education.
The main aim of this partnership was to transfer the highly-acclaimed Musica Viva In Schools education resources to a new online learning platform – Musica Viva Classroom – allowing us to move away from USBs and downloads and make our resources more responsive to teacher and student needs.
BAI and its former web development subsidiary company, Hostworks, worked with Musica Viva education staff to develop a highly interactive platform with intuitive features that provide a top-quality user experience and facilitate co-creation between teachers and students.

A national platform
Following a pilot in 2016-2017, the platform was launched nationally at the beginning of 2018 and now boasts a large range of music-learning projects for the classroom, including ‘sound-scaping’ activities, access to music libraries and online accredited teacher training.
Schools participating in Musica Viva In Schools receive their own user account to access online music lessons and resources complementing each live Musica Viva in Schools music performance. We anticipate more than 290,000 students and their teachers will be using the platform in 2018.

Beyond music
Over the three-year period, our Digital Innovation partnership with BAI also contributed to other significant application developments, notably the Indigenous Language Platform, a community-managed online platform supported by the Federal Government, which allows Indigenous communities to comprehensively record and preserve language in a user-friendly and future-proofed context.
Two iterations of the Indigenous Language Platform are in development with the Ngarrindjeri community in South Australia, and with the Yugambeh Museum Language Centre in Queensland, which is working to upload three languages to the platform in 2018.
Musica Viva extended their appreciation to BAI Communications for enabling them to take their education program to new heights and to reach more children and communities through digital innovation.
