BAI joins Wireless Broadband Alliance in endorsing inaugural World Wi-Fi Day

World Wi-Fi Day will be a global platform to recognise and celebrate the significant role Wi-Fi is playing in getting cities and communities around the world connected.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 17th June 2016: BAI Communications (BAI) is pleased to collaborate with the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) and many other industry players in endorsing World Wi-Fi Day – June 20, 2016.

World Wi-Fi Day is a special initiative presented by the WBA with the aim of accelerating affordable wireless connectively around the world with the HOPE for Connectivity charter.

The HOPE for Connectivity charter directs the attention of cities, government bodies, fixed and mobile operators, technology vendors and Internet giants towards the critical influence and success of wireless connectivity in bridging the digital divide. It calls on governments, industry and public to recognise and celebrate the important role of Wi-Fi in socioeconomic development and to advance and accelerate affordable connectivity for the unconnected around the world.

BAI, a global leader in the design, build and operation of highly available communications networks, is joined by its subsidiaries – Transit Wireless, BAI Canada and RFE – in supporting this initiative. Transit Wireless is the operator of the Transit Wireless Free Wi-Fi service in the NYC subway, which services 6 million rides per day. BAI Canada is the operator of the TCONNECT Free Wi-Fi service in the Toronto subway carrying 1.5 million rides per day. In Hong Kong, RFE delivers communications for the MTR Corporation – the 218-kilometre metro network serves 1.6 billion passengers per year.
