One year after launch, Transit Wireless (a BAI Communications majority owned company) confirms underground wireless and cellular connectivity a smash hit with more than 140 million cellular calls and 120 million Wi-Fi logins in 2017.
“Passengers want to experience the same connectivity on their commute as they do everywhere else, whether at work, at home or on the move. They also want to travel safely and easily above and below ground, accessing the information they need reliably and without interruption.”
In addition, Wi-Fi has been installed in underground stations a full two years ahead of schedule. The MTA’s early delivery was in response to the Governor’s directive at the beginning of 2016 to accelerate the project.
The MTA has partnered with Transit Wireless and Penguin Random House to launch “Subway Reads,” a special eight-week long joint promotion celebrating the installation of free wireless connectivity in more than 175 underground subway stations.
Award acknowledges the work of Transit Wireless in for designing, building and deploying the cellular and Wi-Fi communications network in the 279 underground stations of the New York City subway system.
Transit Wireless is on track to extend wireless connectivity services to all underground subway stations in NYC by the end of 2016: Re-launches websites and relocates to larger headquarters.
